Ally McCoist rages as Everton not handed clear penalty in defeat v Liverpool

Ally McCoist has been left raging after Everton were not handed a clear penalty against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

Anthony Gordon was clearly brought down by Joel Matip at the start of the second half, but the officials and VAR waved play on.

McCoist labelled VAR an “embarrassment” after the decision, with Liverpool going on to win 2-0 after at Anfield.

Speaking live on talkSPORT this morning [25 April] as shared on Twitter, McCoist was left spitting feathers.

“Absolutely no doubt,” he said. “I can’t believe we’re having this conversation, it’s a penalty.

“It’s 100% a penalty and they should have been given the penalty, I heard the boys talk about it after the game, maybe they were influenced by Gordon diving in this first half.

“Two things, the referee is completely wrong. He’s wrong because his job is to take all incidents on their own individual merit, so that is a penalty.

“What they’re doing in VAR, that’s an embarrassment.”

Shocking.

How many times do incidents like these have to happen before the PGMOL launch a wide-scale review into the state of officiating in the Premier League?

It is more than embarrassing now, and to our surprise, it always seems to go against Everton on the biggest stages.

This has happened against Manchester City and Liverpool, what a surprise with those two currently sitting in the top two this season.

Mike Riley and his team are making things worst rather than improving them, and he best not dare come out and make another pointless apology.

What will these reviews and apologies mean if we are relagated from the Premier League next month? The same as they do now, absolutely nothing.

Frank Lampard handled it like a gentleman, but we’re seething and there is nothing you can do that will make this look alright.

Shocking, yet again.
