Tim Sherwood: Referees must be discussing Everton attacker Gordon ‘Cheating’ to win fouls

Tim Sherwood believes that Everton player Anthony Gordon dives a lot to win fouls in his breakthrough Premier League campaign.

He was analysing the Merseyside derby on the Premier League Analytics Show with Andy Townsend.

Townsend brought up footage of Gordon going to the ground on numerous occasions before he showed the very genuine penalty claim that was waved off.

Sherwood believes that his reputation precedes him and that’s why he wasn’t given the penalty.

He said, “That’s a dive. It doesn’t do him any favours. They used to call it cheating in our time.

“He’s got fantastic pace and they [Everton] were targeting Trent.

“However, referees probably sit down with a cup of tea about players who buy fouls. He is one of them.”

Weird

Gordon is one of the most skilful attackers in the Premier League this season.

His pace often sees him leaving defenders for dead and the only way they can stop him is to bring him down.

There are occasions when players go down on the slightest of contact and that’s only because referees don’t blow in their favour if they stay up.

The youngster needs to be lauded for the excellent season he’s been having and not criticised.

Sherwood clearly is being biased in his punditry here and Gordon is unlikely to lose too much sleep over it.
