Everton striker Salomon Rondon could replace Demarai Gray for Chelsea clash

Everton striker Salomon Rondon could replace Demarai Gray for the Chelsea clash on Sunday (May 1), according to the Liverpool Echo.

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin set to miss out, the club lack a focal point as Richarlison fancies playing out wide.

This could mean that Rondon could be in line for a rare start with summer signing Gray dropping to the bench.

Right move?

Rondon was a baffling signing to begin with in the summer.

Few saw the merits behind signing him and the only reason he was targeted was because he previously worked with Rafa Benitez.

It’s fair to say he’s not done wonders at Goodison Park since joining but he still is an out and out number nine.

Without Calvert-Lewin, the club is massively lacking in that department.

Richarlison can play there but it’s not his preferred position and he does not quite have that hold-up ability as well as killer goal-scoring instinct.

Rondon could cause the Blues defence a few nightmares and Frank Lampard could look to throw him in the mix.

The Toffees boss will want to get one over his former side and the Venezuelan attacker could be the trump card that he plays.

It remains to be seen how the game transpires and whether or not Lampard can get the desired result.
