Yerry Mina and Dominic Calvert-Lewin back in the squad: Early Everton team news v Chelsea

Yerry Mina and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are back in the Everton squad for Chelsea, but Ben Godfrey is set to be out for “a few weeks” confirms Frank Lampard.

The Toffees lost 2-0 to Liverpool in the Merseyside derby last time out, with refereeing again a key issue after key Stuart Attwell decisions all fell in favour of the hosts.

The trio all missed that game, as did Donny van de Beek who is still unfit for the upcoming game, as well as Andre Gomes.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference Lampard said that for the Colombian defender it was a matter of “being careful with him” rather than a major issue.

The manager said the club would “love” to get Godfrey back before the end of the season but admitted it would be a “close call”.

Calvert-Lewin, who has had a miserable time with fitness throughout this season, is back after training for the “last couple of days”.

Addressing rumours that the England forward had been fit but was left out anyway Lampard said: “They’re not true. That’s the unfortunate rumour mill in football.”

Focus

The players are going to have to try to forget all of the frustrating fall-out from the defeat at Anfield and focus fully on the next chance for points.

Thomas Tuchel’s European Champions are not in great form, having laboured to a 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford last night (29 April).

Aside from the impressive comeback that fell short in the Bernabeu the only positive to speak of was a late, late 1-0 win over a weakened West Ham side last weekend.

Otherwise they have lost heavily three times at home, and haven’t won at Goodison for five years, which Lampard will know all about from his own time at the club.

That leaves the door very much open for a positive result that the Toffees need more than ever.

Burnley’s major uptick in form has turned into a big problem for the club, and it is vital that they put the pressure back on the Clarets as soon as possible, having been left in the relegation zone.

In other Everton news, a Liverpool legend claims it it “no coincidence” that the Toffees have got the most bookings for diving.
