Danny Murphy delivers strong Everton verdict after Burnley win

Danny Murphy fears that Everton have got a “mountain to climb” after Burnley won against Watford on Saturday.

The Clarets have made a dramatic turnaround under Mike Jackson, the caretaker boss, as they picked up a 2-1 victory against Watford.

They have now picked up four wins out of their last six games, and have moved five points ahead of Everton, having played two games more.

“The freedom starts to come after a win or two and you start to realise you are decent players,” said Murphy, as relayed by the BBC Sport website.

“Mike Jackson deserves great credit, it is the Crewe footballing education he has had.

“It is leadership from all angles, they are all in together. It is amazing how winning does things to you. Everton have got a mountain to climb.”

Spot on

It’s hard to agree with Murphy most of the time but on this occasion, he is absolutely spot on.

Frank Lampard needs to motivate his team and get a positive result on Sunday, where even a draw won’t be a bad result. A win against the Blues would be fantastic.

Everton have done relatively well at Goodison Park compared to their away performance, which has been nothing but shambolic.

The Toffees have beaten the likes of Manchester United at home, and there’s no reason why they can’t get another big result tomorrow.

The pressure on them is huge and it’s important to start the game positively.

The confidence in the team is not high, and they struggle once they concede a goal. So, it’s important to stay in the game throughout.

Leeds United have lost 4-0 against Manchester City at Elland Road, and they have got back-to-back tough fixtures against Arsenal and Chelsea.

However, the Toffees should focus on their own game instead.

In other Everton news, a football finance expert has made a claim on the new Toffees stadium amid a major £300m development in the last week.
