Garth Crooks can’t believe eyes at miraculous Everton star Jordan Pickford v Chelsea

Garth Crooks was left stunned by the performance of Everton keeper Jordan Pickford in the win over Chelsea.

The England international made numerous crucial saves to secure all three points in this Premier League relegation battle.

Crooks labelled his efforts as “miraculous” as he handed Frank Lampard a major lifeline at Goodison Park.

Writing in his Team of the Week column for the BBC, Crooks simply couldn’t believe his eyes at what the keeper did.

“Pickford kept a clean sheet but I don’t know how he did it,” he wrote. “The Everton keeper made two of the most remarkable saves to clinch a vital victory for the Toffees.

“He was forced to sprint across his goal line before diving to make the most miraculous double-handed save I’ve seen since Gordon Banks saved Pele’s header in the 1970 World Cup.

“Everton would have been in a perilous position had they lost to Chelsea and Pickford has given Toffees boss Frank Lampard a lifeline.”

Sensational.

This was one of the best performances we have seen with our own eyes.

Pickford may have played the best five minutes of his career in one spell in this huge win yesterday afternoon.

After Mason Mount hit the post, his scrambling effort to deny Cesar Azpilicueta was one of the best things we have ever seen.

He didn’t stop there though, bravely saving Antonio Rudiger’s piledriver with his face from the resulting corner.

These are the moments everyone will remember should we beat the drop and remain in the Premier League.

We also hope Gareth Southgate is watching too, with the debate around England’s number one not even difficult.

That is Pickford’s shirt, and he continues to outshine everyone in this position in the Premier League – what a man.
