Richard Keys flies off hinges after ‘Stupid’ Richarlison-Everton incident, hopes FA see sense

Richard Keys has flown off the hinges at “Stupid” Richarlison throwing a flare back into the Everton fans against Chelsea.

The controversial pundit also hit back at the Toffees insisting the Brazilian was throwing it out of the stadium and to safety.

Despite that, Keys admitted that the FA should look past it and only warn Richarlison, rather than ban him after their investigation.

Writing in the latest edition of his blog, Keys hoped that despite not being the best of ideas, the FA saw sense.

“I hope the FA see sense and simply warn Richarlison about his future behaviour,” he said. “I said on beINSPORTS that I thought he was a lucky boy.

“He should really have been sent off for throwing that flare back into the crowd. It’s deemed a ‘violent act’ – but I don’t believe it was. It was a stupid act for sure and he should be warned.

“I know ignorance is no defence but he wouldn’t have been aware of the laws covering things like that. What he certainly wasn’t doing was ‘throwing the flare out of the stadium’ as Everton have claimed.

“It would be unfair if the FA enforce a 3-game ban and he missed crucial games now.”

Silly.

We are all now facing a very nervous wait before finding out the fate of Richarlison moving into our final five games.

The Brazilian may have got carried away at the moment, but with everything on the line, he has to be more careful and smart.

Of course, he didn’t mean to harm anyone, but picking up the flare in the first place is just asking for trouble from this FA.

Keys is right in the sense that a warning is enough, it’s not as though it was thrown into the away fans with venom, it was simply tossed back.

This isn’t being condoned, but at such a huge part of the season, we hope the FA understand that it stemmed from the passion in celebration.

Frank Lampard will be hoping for good news, but with this governing body, you simply never know what could happen.

Fingers crossed.
