Everton outcast Cenk Tosun causes indecision at Besiktas over injury concerns

Turkish Super League side Besiktas want to sign Cenk Tosun from Everton but they are understandably hesitant over one key issue, according to Sabah.

The 30-year-old has played just 11 minutes of football for the Toffees this season with no more than five of those coming in one single game having failed to make an impact on Merseyside.

Frank Lampard has shown no interest at all in playing him since he arrived in January and with his contract expiring in the summer, his destiny looks sealed.

Tosun joined Everton from Besiktas in 2018 after he’d performed well in his homeland and the top division club want him back but they are indecisive over his fitness with an injury likely to rule him out until August.

Sabah highlights the issue as a “serious problem,” with another key sticking point being the 30-year-old’s big wage and unwillingness to drop to what Besiktas are comfortable paying.

Not our problem

Besiktas are no doubt sweating over this situation, after all, he was very good in the Turkish league before he came to Goodison Park but that’s not our problem come July.

Once his contract expires at the end of this season, Everton are no longer for his next move and we can finally forget that he was ever a Toffee and look to the future.

In a weird kind of way, you almost have to applaud the bravery he showed when he joined back in 2018 because he was banging goals in left, right and centre in his homeland and leading the national team too.

But that all came crumbling down once he made the switch to Merseyside, proving that he is only capable of producing quality in his home country which is pretty pointless for us.

It wouldn’t surprise you if Lampard doesn’t even realise he has left when he returns for pre-season training and his absence won’t be felt by many around the club either.
