Everton ace Richarlison compared to 'young Ronaldo' by America director

Everton can be very thankful for Richarlison’s ability and big-game mentality this season with a number of his goals proving vital in the survival scrap.

Perhaps none more so than his opportunist goal last Sunday against Chelsea which earned Frank Lampard a big win over his former employers and keep the pressure on Leeds United above them.

Richarlison’s former director at America, Euler de Almeida Araujo, recently spoke to the BBC about the 24-year-old and what he was like while making a name for himself in the Americas.

“He played on the wing and would be fouled a lot but would rarely go down,” says Araujo.

“Defenders would smash into him and he’d fall. You’d think he must be hurt, but he would bounce back up and keep going. He never gave up. He was like a young Ronaldo in that sense – that physical strength and determination at such a young age.”

Head and shoulders

The Everton ‘Player of the Season’ shortlist might not have a particularly long list of names on it but you can absolutely guarantee that Richarlison will be one of those.

He has almost carried this side to results at times and the way he has stepped up to the plate in the absence of Dominic Calvert-Lewin is hugely admirable.

Only Anthony Gordon and Jordan Pickford might be able to hold a torch to the Brazilian but neither quite possesses the same match-winning ability as the 24-year-old.

Lampard will need him to be just as good for the final five games too because if he isn’t there to drag the Toffees over the line and to Premier League safety, then he’ll be off in the summer for pastures new.

The Championship is no stage for such a sensational talent so we now need the rest of the group to take some responsibility and help Richarlison lead the club to safer shores before he bids farewell to Merseyside.

In other Everton news, a club in Europe are indecisive over signing this Goodison Park outcast because of one “serious problem.”
