Gary Lineker makes Gerrard-Everton joke in Burnley loss v Aston Villa
Gary Lineker joked that Steven Gerrard was trying to do everything he can to ensure that Everton don’t get relegated this season.
The Toffees find themselves in the drop zone and need results to go their way.
With Aston Villa beating Burnley 3-1, they now have two games in hand over them and a chance to reduce the deficit.
Via his personal Twitter account, Lineker wrote, “Villa are 2 up at Burnley. Gerrard is doing his bit to try and save Everton.”
Staying up?
This was a massive result for the Toffees who will have been frustrated by Burnley’s resurgence.
They looked down and out under Sean Dyche and benefited massively from the new manager bounce.
However, this performance and result surely will have humbled them.
It remains to be seen if they manage to bounce back from it as many of the players must have already thought they were getting relegated a month ago.

The onus now is on Everton to go out and beat Leicester City on Sunday.
A win in that one not only sees them overtake the Clarets but also Leeds who will be playing Arsenal on the same day.
The Foxes have nothing to play for so it should not be much of a challenge for them.
In other Everton news, a football finance expert has made a claim on the new Toffees stadium amid a major £300m development in the last week.
