Sky pundit adamant that Everton must not lose Frank Lampard after what he's seen at the club

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Frank Lampard must remain as Everton manager to “bed down roots” whether the club stays in the Premier League or not insists Kevin Campbell.

The former Chelsea boss has come into his own in recent weeks, with his tactical changes resulting in some crucial results, and he has connected to the fans in a way few managers have.

Sky Sports pundit Campbell believes that proves he is the right man to take the club forward where none of the plethora who have come and gone under Farhad Moshiri have been.

“I do, I do [think he’s the right man]. I think what’s got to happen is Everton have got to be brave,” Campbell exclusively told Goodison News.

“If the worst was to happen, which I don’t think it’s going to if I’m honest, if the worst was to happen I think you’ve got to let a manager start bedding roots down at that football club.

“You’ve got to because the way they’ve been going, they haven’t had a plan, they’ve never had one.

Where’s the plan been? There’s no plan.

“So whether it’s Premier League or Championship somebody’s got to start putting the plan in place, and I think that’s Lampard, I really do.”

The jury was still out on the 43-year-old until recently, as it appeared that some of the same issues that had led to his demise at Stamford Bridge were still on show, particularly in defence.

But as Jamie Carragher analysed recently on Sky Sports Monday Night Football the ex-England international has shown an adaptability of late that is utilising what his squad has, and it’s working.

While he is not a universally popular choice as boss among the Toffees support, he has shown he understands what this club means to the fans and is starting to look like the ideal figurehead for the galvanising forces gathering behind the team in recent weeks.

In other Everton news, an ex-Toffee and pundit has shared how recent scenes at the ground caused him to get emotional.
