Everton nudged towards signing James Tarkowski from Burnley by Carlton Palmer
Everton and Burnley are currently embroiled in a relegation battle but Carlton Palmer wants the Toffees to go and sign one of the Clarets’ stars.
England international James Tarkowski is out of contract in the summer and destined to finally leave Turf Moor for a new challenge and he has plenty of suitors.
Newcastle United appear to be leading the race for his signature while West Ham have seemingly pulled out of their pursuit due to the mega-rich Magpies’ interest [The Mirror].
BBC pundit Palmer though wants Frank Lampard to bring him to Goodison Park as he sees resemblances with former Blues favourites in the 29-year-old.
“He’d be typical of the centre-halves that have been there, you know, big Dave Watson in the past and the good centre-halves they’ve had at Everton,” Palmer said to Give Me Sport.
“They do need to strengthen. The recruitment at the club’s been poor over the years, and they need to get that part of it right. They need to get that part of it right for Frank.”

As centre-halves go in the Premier League, they don’t come much more solid than Tarkowski and with him being available for no transfer fee this summer, it’s no surprise that interest is high.
Newcastle’s newfound wealth is certainly going to be an issue with them being able to pay many times more than any other club could if they need to but they are also a side on the up which can’t be said for the Toffees.
They’ve still got some work to do to secure their top tier status for next season and even though they have perked up in the last few games – seven points from their last three – St James’ Park might still be a more tempting destination.
The only thing maybe on Lampard’s side is the location of the club with the 29-year-old already situated in the north west, he may want to remain local to where he has lived for the majority of his life rather than head up to Tyneside.
Ultimately though, it is unlikely that Everton will properly make a move for Tarkowski and everyone seems to expect him to play in black and white stripes next season.
