Everton track Fenerbahce right-back Bright Osayi-Samuel as Seamus Coleman replacement

Everton are interested in Fenerbahce right-back Bright Osayi-Samuel as a replacement for club captain Seamus Coleman, according to En Son Haber.

The 24-year-old, who is reportedly valued at €6million, has only been in Turkey for a season, having previously played in England for QPR and Blackpool.

The Nigerian is a versatile player, having featured for the Istanbul giants as a right-sided full-back and a wide-midfielder on both flanks.

His switch to the defence has apparently precipitated a major improvement in form that according to the report has produced “the best right-back performance in the league”.

Fenerbahce reportedly want to make a profit on him, but Frank Lampard “personally admires” him and will make a bid in the summer.

The En Son Haber report claims that “if everything goes well” he would replace 33-year-old Coleman at Goodison.

Despite investing what could rise to £16million in Rangers youngster Nathan Patterson in January the club’s situation at the position is still unsettled.

Coleman has been a wonderful servant for the club, and is still chipping in with the odd strong performance.

But he has also been part of some dreadful collective displays from the Toffees back-line and no longer can be expected to be a stand-out week after week in the Premier League.

Lampard appears to not trust Patterson, having restricted him to a single half of football in the FA Cup against fifth-tier Boreham Wood.

The Scot has since been ruled out with injury, but unless he can emulate fellow January arrival Vitalii Mykolenko with strong advances to become an important player, it wouldn’t be a surprise for the club to re-enter the market.

If Osayi-Samuel is available for a low price like suggested then he could be an asset, especially considering Lampard seems to value versatility when he switches between formations.

A lone season in Turkey has produced 42 appearances, two goals and five assists, as his club ended with a third-placed finish, so he may be worth following up.

In other Everton news, one Toffee who was attracting interest for a summer move with his contract set to expire will sign a new deal as early as next week.
