Mark Lawrenson predicts result of Everton clash v Brentford

Everton have found a formula to win at Goodison Park and Mark Lawrenson expects them to really have a go when they face Brentford on Sunday [May 15].

The Toffees have climbed out of the relegation zone after going three games without defeat, now sitting two points above to bottom three with three games to go.

Now as they look to continue their good home form, where they’re unbeaten in their last four games, Lawrenson made his pick for his BBC Sport column and thinks Frank Lampard’s side will claim a 2-0 win.

“Everton are not mathematically safe yet, but they have worked so hard to get in this position that I cannot see them easing up now,” he said.

“Their fans will not let that happen anyway. The atmosphere at Goodison Park and the backing they have given their team in such a difficult season is one of the biggest reasons Frank Lampard’s side are probably staying up – and it will be the same again on Sunday.

“Brentford are full of confidence at the moment and playing well but I am backing Everton to go at them, the same way they did against Chelsea at Goodison at the start of May.

“Their physicality played a part in that victory and I think it will be the same again here – they have found a formula for winning at home, and it works.”

Huge

Just like the last game was and the one before that, the next game is the biggest game of Everton’s season so far.

The Toffees know that a win over Brentford could see them secure safety if other results go their way on Sunday [May 15], so they must be fully focused on securing all three points.

The fans have been excellent at home especially and have often carried the team’s lacklustre performances over the line to keep them safe for as long as possible.

Now the players have the chance to pay them back with a big performance so they can end the season on a high after a rollercoaster, but the fans never lost faith.

They’ve got momentum and home advantage, and Brentford have nothing to play for, so here’s hoping that Lawrenson is right about this one.
