Everton news: Sky Sports pundit tears Salomon Rondon to shreds for incident v Brentford
Andy Hinchcliffe blasted Salomon Rondon after the Everton forward was shown a straight red card in the latter stages of his side’s 3-2 defeat to Brentford on Sunday (15 May).
Rondon, 32, was immediately sent off by Michael Oliver after he lunged in with a studs-up challenge on Brentford’s Rico Henry in the 88th minute.
The ex-West Brom striker was substituted into game just four minutes before that in order to help Everton get a goal back and rescue a point.
However, Hinchcliffe says that Oliver had no choice but to red-card the Venezuelan for his horror tackle.
“It’s a nasty challenge,” said Hinchcliffe on Sky Sports Main Event on Sunday (15 May, 06:19pm).
“He jumps off his feet so it goes from reckless to dangerous and that’s why he’s been rightly red-carded.

“Of course, he’s on, he’s enthusiastic, he wants to get the ball back for his team.
“But it’s not a good challenge at all.
“He really does jump into this challenge as the ball is played and you do that and catch your opponent, your [shown a] red card] because it’s dangerous.
“It’s a horrible challenge.”
What is the point?
Thanks, Rafa Benitez. That one is on you.
What on earth was going on in Rondon’s head when he made that challenge on Henry?
He’d just come off the bench and we were one goal down with two minutes of normal time left to play.
And he decides to lunge in and plant his studs on Henry’s shin.
It was a shocking challenge and Oliver had no choice but to send Rondon off.
He was barely on the pitch for a few minutes when he made that lunge.
Everton’s kitman won’t even have to bother washing his kit after that.
But, Rondon’s season is over.
While we have Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin available, scoring and fit to play, it would have been handy to have had an extra option in Rondon for the final two matches of the Premier League season next week.
He’s had his uses, assisting a huge equaliser against Leicester while also causing some problems while in the attack.
But on the whole, Rondon’s time as an Everton player has failed to do anything other than meet expectations.
He’s been terrible and must go this summer.
