Don Hutchison disagrees with Jamie Carragher on Richarlison decision in Everton v Brentford

Former Everton midfielder Don Hutchison cannot understand the rationale behind Jamie Carragher’s defence of the decision on Sunday.

The Toffees lost the game 3-2, but it could have ended in a draw had the referee given a penalty when Brentford’s Kristoffer Ajer was clearly seen pulling Richarlison’s shirt.

However, any protests of a penalty were waved off and Everton picked up no points from the game.

Speaking on Monday Night Football, Carragher said, ” This is in slow motion and the stills make it look like, ‘How can he not give a penalty for that decision?’

“He’s got a lot of shirt there. But what I would say is I don’t think it’s a penalty, because we’re watching it in slow motion.

“People are saying it’s six of one, half a dozen of the other. It’s not, it’s more Ajer, it might be eight [to] four. Richarlison complains at the end of it, not actually when it’s going on.”

Hutchison clearly was not a fan of this analysis and took to Twitter to write, “How on Earth is this not a penalty!”

Bizarre

We seriously do not know where Carragher is coming from.

It was a shocking decision and the referee clearly robbed Everton of a chance to get points from it.

If they end up getting relegated because of it, then the blue half of Merseyside will certainly be fuming.

Referees have all the technology in the world to aid them to make the right decisions but they still manage to make such blunders.

Thankfully, that result did not cost Frank Lampard’s men a great deal and all eyes are now on the final game of the season.

Arsenal have an outside chance for top four as they now need Norwich to beat Spurs on the final day of the season and win against the Toffees to qualify.

In other Everton news, a football finance expert has made a claim on the new Toffees stadium amid a major £300m development in the recent weeks.
