Ben Godfrey has chance to redeem himself in Everton v Crystal Palace

Everton defender Ben Godfrey could be in contention to start against Crystal Palace on Thursday (19 May).

The Toffees defender wasn’t even on the bench against Brentford as he hadn’t recovered fully yet. However, according to Evertonfc.com, he should be fit to face the Eagles.

Godfrey is a fantastic defender, and Frank Lampard is likely to throw him in the mix if he is fit to play.

In that case, the 24-year-old should look to redeem himself.

In the corresponding fixture between the two sides in December, Godfrey was slaughtered by pundits for his shambolic defending.

BT Sport pundit Rachel Brown-Finnis slammed him for his “criminal” defending as Everton suffered a 3-1 loss on 13 December last year.

He was shockingly poor that day, making some ghastly errors.

This time, the situation is different. Everton are now fighting for survival. There is no room for error.

The Toffees need to get a win in one of their next two games to secure their Premier League status.

Given their form away from home, it will be a huge risk if the relegation battle goes on to the final day, involving the Toffees.

They have to do it at home in mid-week. Godfrey, if fit, is likely to stay in defence, probably alongside Mason Holgate.

Godfrey is an exciting defender who can play multiple roles. He has struggled with injuries at times and has managed only 23 appearances in the league this season.

This is a big opportunity for him to make an amend.
