Keith Hackett: Everton need referee to visit and explain laws of the game

We’re delighted to welcome former Premier League referee Keith Hackett as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Everton...

Keith Hackett believes that Everton need a referee to go to the club and sit them down to explain the rules of the game.

The Toffees picked up two red cards against Brentford and the game unrivalled resulting in a 3-2 loss for them.

Frank Lampard now has two fewer players to choose from for his final two games of the season.

Hackett, who used to visit Everton when David Moyes was in charge at the helm at Goodison Park.

Speaking to Goodison News about the importance of these visits, he said, “This team needs to get a referee into the club.

“I’ve done it in the past with Everton when David Moyes was there.

“We’re not coaching players in terms of making challenges. We’re actually highlighting what’s a red card and what’s not a red card.

We tell them, ‘You’re out of control, you’re taking the frustration out on a player.

“Don’t blame the referee, you’ve left him with no option on that one.”

Everton are set to take on Crystal Palace on Thursday night before they go to Arsenal on the final day of the season.

They could be safe before the Gunners clash should they get the desired result against a Palace side that virtually have nothing to play for.

In other Everton news, a football finance expert has made a claim on the new Toffees stadium amid a major £300m development in the recent weeks.
