Paul Merson: Everton will get something v Crystal Palace and survive in Premier League

Paul Merson has backed Everton to be fine in the Premier League survival race that comes grinding to a halt on Sunday afternoon [22 May].

The Toffees first welcome Crystal Palace to Goodison Park on Thursday [19 May], knowing that a win would guarantee survival ahead of a final-day trip to Arsenal.

Even if they don’t do that, Merson still expects Leeds United and Burnley to struggle to win on the final day to turn things around and relegate Everton.

Writing in his latest column for Sky Sports on Tuesday evening [17 May], Merson shared his big prediction for the final few days of the Premier League.

“I think Everton will be alright, I’ve seen enough from them to get something out of the next two games,” he wrote.

“They have to get something out of Crystal Palace at home and I can see that happening. Even then, you’d have to ask Burnley and Leeds to win their football matches which is a big ask, especially on the last day of the season.”

Finish it.

Frank Lampard will be desperate to secure safety on Thursday evening, and not take this to the final day against Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

After starting on fire against Brentford, it looked as though we could have had it wrapped up with two left to play, but silly decisions and shocking officials meant it ended in defeat.

That was gutting, but the squad have to take the positives from that one and use the rest as motivation to get the job done in front of what is expected to be another huge atmosphere at Goodison Park.

These fans have been huge in these tough times, and the squad has certainly responded in the past couple of months, but now it is time to finish the job.

Merson knows that the Toffees are in the driving seat, and with Burnley and Leeds not exactly firing on all cylinders, those huge wins over Chelsea and Leicester are currently looking like enough.
