Jamie O'Hara rages at 'disgusting' Jordan Ayew tackle in Everton v Crystal Palace

Everton finally secured their Premier League safety with a stunning 3-2 comeback win at home to Crystal Palace on Thursday (19 May).

The Toffees went 2-0 down in the first half as Jean-Philippe Mateta and Jordan Ayew bagged the goals for Patrick Vieira’s side to silence a previously rowdy home crowd.

Michael Keane got one back 10 minutes into the second half before Richarlison levelled with 15 minutes to go and then Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored the winner to keep Everton up.

The big talking point though was why Ayew wasn’t shown a red card for a horrible scissor challenge moments before his first-half goal and talkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara could not believe his eyes that the Ghanaian didn’t receive a red card or that VAR failed to look at the challenge.

“Disgusting tackle by Ayew and only gets a yellow, how has VAR not looked at that and said red card,” O’Hara said via his personal Twitter account.

Moments later when the Eagles attacker scored, O’Hara then tweeted, “Ayew has just scored and shouldn’t be on the pitch, but what on earth are Everton doing they are a shambles at the back.”

As has been the theme of our entire season, tight games have been decided by poor refereeing decisions and they always seem to go against us.

Anthony Taylor is perfectly allowed to only brandish a yellow card if he hasn’t seen the challenge clearly and he does only see it once, at full speed so he can’t make the right decision 100% of the time, that’s just fact.

But VAR was brought into the game to ensure that these incidents didn’t happen and that if there was a red card challenge, the on-field referee could watch it back and decide to either change his mind and upgrade it to a red or stick by his original decision.

So why on earth was he not advised to do so by the VAR official sat on his backside at Stockley Park?

If this ends up being a result that sends us down then you can expect Lampard and many others look to this decision and the countless incidents throughout the season that have gone against Everton when they really shouldn’t have.
