Everton to reduce ‘Horrendous’ losses with some blockbuster transfers this summer – Martyn Ziegler

Everton are set to reduce some of their “horrendous” losses this summer with some big players sales, according to Martyn Ziegler.

The Times journalist has reported that some of the more expensive purchases at the club will leave the club as the weeks move on this summer through the window.

It comes after Leeds United and Burnley threatened legal action against the Toffees for irregularities in their financial reports in recent years.

Speaking to the Esk Podcast, Ziegler shared what is set to come at Goodison Park this summer in terms of exits.

“As a consequence, we’ve [Everton] made horrendous losses for a number of years and although the loss situation will improve as people fall off the books as the amortization costs reduce as some of the more expensive purchases leave the club.

“Some of which will do so this summer. It is a situation that has been very apparent.”

Rough summer ahead?

This could be a very rough period at Goodison Park.

Financial Fair Play rulings are now very tight on Merseyside, and selling players is the only way to improve that situation moving forward.

There are plenty of options to get rid of in this current squad, with huge wages thrown around by Farhad Moshiri for no apparent reason for too many of these players.

Cenk Tosun has already confirmed his exit, then you add in the likes of Yerry Mina, Andre Gomes and Fabian Delph as options who could also leave.

Bringing down that wage bill will help, but selling big names such as Richarlison could also help.

Frank Lampard may not be best pleased with what happens, but if players are sold for big money, a small percentage of that still has to be used to replace them.

We may see some younger players arrive on smaller wages, and it is something that has been suggested as needed for many years now – time will tell.

In other Everton news, a football finance expert has made a claim on the new Toffees stadium amid a major £300m development in the recent weeks.
