Rennes defender Adrien Truffert is said to fit the perfect profile that Kevin Thelwell and Frank Lampard want at Everton, according to The Mirror.

It is reported that the Toffees will be looking to bring in younger players who can develop under the new regime at Goodison Park in years to come.

David Maddock even mooted that the 20-year-old appears to have been notified of a potential approach from Everton over a transfer this summer.

Writing for The Mirror on Thursday [02 June], Maddock shared the view of Thelwell and Lampard that could see a deal secured sooner rather than later.

“One that seems interesting, is Rennes left-back Adrien Truffert, who is only 20, and therefore fits the description of players Lampard and his new director of football Kevin Thelwell are identifying, young players who can develop,” he wrote.

“And he has been told of an Everton approach, it seems.”

Strange.

Do Everton really need another left-back?

Vitalii Mykolenko arrived in January and he has been one of the few shining lights in recent months and his passion is perfect for him to cement his spot moving forward.

Unless Rennes would accept a really cheap bid that suits the Toffees down to the ground, then it would make no sense to splash the cash on another left-back.

Truffert may fit that profile of bringing in younger players, but we have to be smart and target other areas in the squad first including the heart of the defence and midfield.

Once that happens and some other players are sold on for profit hopefully, then we can start to cast our net wider and improve the depth in areas such as full-back.

Thelwell and Lampard are working away behind the scenes it seems, let’s hope for a breakthrough soon.
