Sky Sports pundit urges Everton to take up Manchester City offer on Oleksandr Zinchenko

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Oleksandr Zinchenko would be a “really good signing” for Everton as they look to address the balance of the squad says Kevin Campbell.

The Athletic reported at the end of May that the Manchester City player had been touted round to clubs including the Toffees with his future at the Etihad uncertain.

And Sky Sports pundit Campbell believes that his versatility makes him an ideal candidate for Frank Lampard’s squad heading into the new season.

He told Goodison News: “You do need as many versatile players as you can get, and players like Zinchenko who can play multiple positions as well as each other I think is key for Everton.

“Because when you start going through the squad the balance isn’t right.

“That’s what Frank Lampard really has to address at Everton in the coming season.

“The balance has to be right, and Zinchenko I think is going to be a coveted player because he’s someone who can play multiple positions as well as each other.

“So yeah I think he’d be a really good move if they go for him”

If the Toffees go ahead with a move for the Ukrainian it would have many echoes of the Fabian Delph signing as both were makeshift City left-backs with previous history in midfield.

The former Aston Villa captain looks to be on the way out of the club when his contract expires as his injury issues have made him unavailable far too often.

Zinchenko would be a good option if he can maintain a more consistent level of fitness than his predecessor, and Lampard’s reliance on Jonjoe Kenny on many occasions shows that he values versatility highly.

In other Everton news, one Toffees star could be in line for a reunion with a former club figure in what might be the lesser evil if he has to leave.
