Everton: Salomon Rondon casts doubt over his future in interview

Salomon Rondon could be just one of a host of exits from Everton this summer as the big overhaul commences at Goodison Park.

The Venezuelan rarely featured from the start for the Toffees during the 2021-22 season with both Rafael Benitez and Frank Lampard mostly using him as an impact substitute late in games.

But the 32-year-old only has 12 months left on his contract on Merseyside and with no new contract in sight, his future at Everton is up in the air this summer.

Rondon, who scored just one Premier League goal in the 2021-22 season, has been adamant that he still feels like he can compete at the top level but he’s aware of the competition at the club.

“I’m in good shape physically and I’m ready to continue at the highest level,” the Venezuelan said to Bola VIP. “I have one more year on my contract with Everton but I want to keep competing, I want to keep being important.”

Get him out

In a summer where we need to offload as much of the deadwood as possible so we can then go out and improve the team, there is no logical reason to keep Rondon at the club any longer.

Lampard has Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison who he has used as strikers and the Toffees have Ellis Simms and Lewis Dobbin who have impressed in the academy and out on loan in the last 12 months.

Simms, in particular, needs to be integrated into the senior squad after he went to Hearts for the second half of the 2021-22 campaign and shone brightly for the Jam Tarts.

With those four options, and potentially another to come in if the money allows, there really is no room for Rondon to get the game time he thinks he deserves and it would be best for both parties if he follows Cenk Tosun’s path out of Finch Farm as soon as possible.

In other Everton news, £17million is all Farhad Moshiri and the Toffees will need to cough up to sign one of Serie A’s most impressive players.
