Sky Sports pundit says £20m worth it for Frank Lampard to bring Harry Winks to Everton

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Everton should pay the asking price of £20million to bring Harry Winks to the club if Frank Lampard wants him, according to Kevin Campbell.

The Telegraph reported on 7 June that the Tottenham man was in the Toffees boss’ sights and would cost that much, which considering the financial constraints at the club could be prohibitive.

But Sky Sports pundit Campbell believes that the importance of getting the midfield balance right to avoid a repeat of the nightmare 2021/22 season makes the price worth it, if the manager feels strongly that the England international is the answer.

He spoke exclusively to Goodison News and said: “You can say so [£20million is better spent elsewhere]. Obviously there’s people who are leaving the club.

“Maybe Everton have to be a bit more frugal with their transfer funds, but I think they’ve got to get that midfield right.

“And Harry Winks is an England international isn’t he?

“Him coming in there, obviously he didn’t play anywhere near as much as he would have liked at Spurs, but one thing we do know is when he does play he doesn’t let anybody down.

“Frank Lampard, if he wants him, £20million isn’t a lot of money, if he wants him.”

After making over 200 appearances for Spurs the 26-year-old has fallen down the pecking order since the arrival of Antonio Conte.

With Fabian Delph leaving Goodison at the end of his contract and Donny van de Beek back at Manchester United there is space in the Toffees midfield.

But without money to throw around like previous years the former Chelsea boss can’t take major risks and will need to be certain that his targets are the right ones before he spends.

In other Everton news, one Toffee’s contract is expiring at the end of the month but negotiations are ongoing and the club hope to keep him beyond that.
