Richard Keys reacts to Everton takeover reports as Farhad Moshiri considers mega sale

Richard Keys has insisted that Farhad Moshiri has been “desperate” to get rid of Everton for more than a year now after news emerged again of a potential sale.

The Mirror reported on Monday [13 June] that four parties have made approaches to buy the club, with a total purchase price potentially going above £1billion.

Keys wasn’t shocked by the bombshell figure, with suggestions that Moshiri will want £500million for himself, and another £500million to finish the new stadium.

Writing on his personal Twitter account late on Monday evening [13 June], Keys reacted to the news that a mega-sale could be on the cards at Goodison Park.

“Moshiri will want £500m + £500 guaranteed to finish the stadium – just as we said here the best part of a year ago,” he wrote.

“He’s been desperate to get rid.”

Desperate.

This has all come at a strange time.

After months of begging for transparency, Moshiri finally broke his silence with a statement to the fans recently, but now this news has broken, was it all for the show?

Why would you be making promises and addressing issues, while no doubt in talks to sell the club completely and move away from the carnage caused in recent years?

Money could be a real issue behind any takeover though, with Moshiri having spent so much of it, it would be hard for anyone else to replicate that or keep up.

Especially with the new stadium being built, that is an extra debt on top of what would be paid out to simply own the club – something that all interested parties need to consider.

Time will tell if this brings along good news, but Keys is right, there does seem an air of desperation around this.
