Everton are one of the clubs who have made an approach to sign Matheus Nunes from Sporting, according to a report from Correio da Manha.

The Portuguese newspaper reported on the printed version (17 June, page 13) that the Toffees revived their interest in the player, who is also being chased by Wolves and Fulham.

They add that the Lions want a fee of around £34m and that Sporting are already looking at replacements.

Difficult

The Toffees must get the deal done for the talented midfielder.

Bolstering the midfield is one of the main priorities for Frank Lampard, and Nunes would be a cracking signing for the club.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a brilliant campaign last season (2021-22) where he managed four goals and five assists in 50 games in all competitions.

However, the reality is Lampard won't be given a massive transfer kitty, with the club walking on tight ropes of Financial Fair Play.

Unless the Toffees sell some of their players, it looks really difficult to fund a move for him.

Andre Gomes is one player who could be sacrificed but the Portuguese won't fetch a huge amount of money.

Nunes apparently wants to explore himself in a better league. The fact that Sporting are already looking at replacement suggests that a deal could be done at some point this season.
