Everton have Oleksandr Zinchenko on 'main targets' list - Fabrizio Romano

Everton have identified Ukrainian midfielder Oleksandr Zinchenko as one of their main targets this transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 25-year-old has been largely played out of position as a left-back at Manchester City owing to the Citizens’ wealth of midfield talent but they now see him as surplus to requirements and are willing to sell him this summer.

With Pep Guardiola pushing to try and sign Brighton and Hove Albion’s left-back Marc Cucurella, Zinchenko’s standing at the club is likely to diminish which is why they are keen to sell him.

Romano, a widely-respected journalist, reported via his personal Twitter account that “Everton have his name in the list as one of the main targets,” although they are not the only team in the race.

He would be Frank Lampard’s first signing of the summer and third midfield addition since he arrived as Toffees manager after deadline day deals for Donny van de Beek and Dele Alli in January.

It has been a very tough few months for Zinchenko given everything that has happened in his home country recently but a move to Goodison Park would at least allow him to have a fellow Ukrainian to bond with.

One of Rafael Benitez’s final purchases as Everton manager was that of left-back Vitaliy Mykolenko and after a steady start, he began to assert himself as an integral part of Lampard’s team.

There would be no logic in signing Zinchenko to play ahead of his compatriot but we could gain a lot of success if the two play together on the left-hand side with the current City player buzzing around between the centre and left of the midfield.

Considering we ended the previous season with Fabian Delph and Alex Iwobi in our midfield, we absolutely need to find improvements in that department and if we can sign Zinchenko for a reasonable price, then it seems to be a no-brainer for Lampard.

In other Everton news, we could go and get ourselves a £15million bargain but that all depends on if we can get our finger out and start negotiations as soon as possible.
