Everton handed chance to re-enter fray for Mainz defender Moussa Niakhate
Everton have reportedly been handed an opportunity to re-enter the fray for Mainz defender Moussa Niakhate this summer.
According to the Nottingham Post, if Florian Plettenberg’s reporting is to be believed, then along with the Toffees, West Ham and Newcastle will both have the chance to snap up his services.
This comes after the Sky Sports Germany journalist claimed that the Bundesliga side are not keen on talks with Nottingham Forest after they tabled a “ridiculous” offer far below £8.6million.
He wrote on Twitter, “News #Niakhaté: Negotiations with Mainz complicated! There is no willingness to talk. It is said that the first offer of #NFFC was „ridiculous“. Transfer fee should be far below €10m. Mainz bosses doesn’t want to continue the talks.”
Snap him up?
The French defender is wanted by the Toffees this summer as they’re looking to strengthen their backline after a disastrous season.

They will announce the signing of James Tarkowski on a free once his deal with Burnley runs out at the end of June.
However, signing just one defender will not be enough and Frank Lampard will be demanding at least two new centre-back acquisitions.
It remains to be seen if Everton take advantage of this recent development as it puts Nottingham out of the race to sign the player.
West Ham too, may have cooled their interest in signing the 20-year-old after they announced Nayef Aguerd’s big-money transfer.
This just leaves Newcastle in the race and the Magpies too, are believed to be keen on signing Sven Botman so the Toffees may have a free run at Niakhate.
