Frank Lampard gives 'green light' for Everton to hold talks to sign Harry Winks

Everton are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks, and the Toffees could initiate contact very soon, as reported by Sky Sports.

The report, via the transfer live blog on 22 June (19:07 pm) suggests that Frank Lampard has given the “green light” for the Toffees to hold talks with Spurs over a move.

The 26-year-old midfielder was told by Spurs to find a new club this summer.

The England midfielder failed to impress Antonio Conte last season (2021-22) and it looks like his future at the club is over.

Winks progressed through to the youth ranks at the north London club and has made over 200 appearances in all competitions.

Last season, he made 19 appearances in the Premier League, and 30 in all competitions, but most of them have come from the bench.

Winks made his name as a typical modern-day holding midfielder under Mauricio Pochettino. He is a technically gifted midfielder who loves to keep possession and can operate as a deep-lying playmaker.

However, his lack of pace is a problem. He is not a robust and dynamic midfielder who can run box to box. Winks is not the type of midfield who can dictate the pace of the game, but he is someone who is a decent passer of the ball.

After Pochettino had left the club, Winks struggled to maintain his position in the side under both Jose Mourinho and Conte. It can be down to the system and preference of the manager, but Winks also failed to adapt to the demands of his managers as well.

Lampard possibly is looking at someone who can replace Fabian Delph. The veteran midfielder will leave the club as a free agent, and Winks is more or less similar to him in style.
