Everton must shift attention elsewhere after Lucas Moura speaks about future plans
Everton and Tottenham could be involved in more transfer dealings after Dele Alli joined the Toffees in January.
Richarlison is being targeted by Spurs, while the Toffees are equally keen to land Harry Winks from the north London club.
According to journalist Paul Brown of The Daily Star, Lucas Moura’s name has come up in discussions as well.
If Spurs make a serious attempt to sign Richarlison, they could include Moura to sweeten the deal.
However, the Toffees must pay attention elsewhere after what Moura said recently.
Speaking to Andre Hernan on 21 June, Moura explained that he wants to stay at Tottenham until the end of his contract, and then move for free as soon as he can.
“The idea is to fulfil the contract. It has one more year, with the option of one more, on the part of the club. So at the end of this season now, if the club wants to extend another year, they have that option,” Lucas Moura told André Hernan.
“But my idea is this. Finalising the contract, playing in the Champions League, we haven’t played the Champions League for two years, and now it could be, perhaps, my last Champions League there at Tottenham. So then the idea is to stay there, fulfil the contract, then be free, then decide where I’m going.”
In such a scenario, where a player doesn’t want to leave, the Toffees could actually waste their time chasing after him.
The Brazilian winger is a vastly experienced player who has this great ability to conjure up moments of brilliance. His last-minute goal against Ajax in the Champions League semi-final comes to mind.
The 29-year-old winger is a versatile attacker who can play across all three positions. Last season, he scored six goals and provided four assists in the Premier League in 19 starts.
Everton will really need to find a quality winger to replace Richarlison, but it would be really difficult to motivate Moura to make the switch to Goodison Park.
