Everton need leaders like Pape Abou Cissé, recent update must excite fans

Everton have been once again linked with a move for Olympiacos centre-back Pape Abou Cissé by Greek journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos.

The Toffees are in the process of overhauling their defensive unit after a dismal campaign where they narrowly escaped relegation.

For this purpose, the Merseyside club have been strongly linked with a move for Burnley centre-back James Tarkowski who is expected to complete his move in the coming days after his contract with the Clarets comes to an end on June 30.

Everton were one of the clubs who linked with Cissé in the January transfer window earlier in the season as well [Daily Star].

In the recently concluded season with Olympiacos, the 26-year-old played 19 league games for the club and scored four goals. He started 65% of the overall games in the 2021-22 season [Transfermarkt].

The Senegal international was one of the standout players of the recently concluded Europa League season where he averaged 2.1 tackles, 1.6 interceptions, and 4.4 clearances in a match [Whoscored].

Everton were one of the worst teams in the Premier League last season defensively where they conceded as many as 66 goals [Premier League].

If they want to improve their team defensively, they need players like Cisse in the team. The 26-year-old isn’t just going to be a player who knows how to defend properly but he will also actively participate in the defensive organization of the team.

A manager cannot do everything related to a team’s performance on the pitch. For that, you need leaders who can lead the from the front and Cisse can be that guy for manager Lampard.
