Sky Sports pundit loves Everton pursuit of Hamza Choudhury due to 'premium' attributes
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Hamza Choudhury could be a bargain signing this summer for Everton, with players like him at a “premium” these days, according to Kevin Campbell.
The Mirror reported that the Toffees were chasing the out-of-favour Leicester City midfielder to “add some steel” in front of the defence, and with only a year left on his contract could be available for an affordable price.
There is competition from the likes of Nottingham Forest, as well as clubs in the Championship, but Sky Sports pundit Campbell thinks that it would be an underrated coup if they pushed through a deal for the 24 year old.
Asked whether the Foxes man could be a bargain for the Toffees he told Goodison News: “I do. I think whenever he’s come into that Leicester side he’s never let anybody down.
“He’s tenacious, he’s tough, he loves to put a tackle in, and he’s got plenty of energy.
“You ask anybody in the Premier League, having players like that is at a premium these days.
“People who are willing to put their bodies on the line.
“So I think that would be a really good move.
“Another person in that midfield with energy, who can get round the pitch and break things up.”
A player who once looked like one of the most promising young talents at the King Power Stadium just a couple of seasons ago, Choudhury has slowly fallen out of favour under Brendan Rodgers.
His involvement in the Premier League has fallen in each of the past two campaigns, making only six top flight outings in 2021/22, but if it is just first team football he needs then a move to Goodison could be ideal.
Lampard also has an old Chelsea link with Rodgers which might come in handy if a deal is being negotiated, so this one is certainly one to watch out for over the next few weeks.
