Frank Lampard makes personal proposal to bring Steven Bergwijn to Everton
Everton have made a concrete offer to sign Steven Bergwijn from Tottenham, and have blown Ajax out of the water with the terms offered according to De Telegraaf.
News broke on Tuesday [The Telegraph, June 28] that Spurs had made an offer for Everton forward Richarlison that included the transfer of Bergwijn to Goodison Park, however the Dutch outlet have claimed that is incorrect.
Instead they say that Frank Lampard has made a “personal proposal” to the 24-year-old to make the move to Merseyside this summer, and an offer is on the table.
It’s claimed that the offer from Everton is “much better” than Ajax’s offer, with the Dutch club keen to sign the winger who left their arch rivals PSV Eindhoven to join Spurs in a £26.7m deal in January 2020.
While Bergwijn still prefers to join Ajax as they can offer Champions League football ahead of the World Cup later this year, Everton’s willingness to pay the transfer fee requested by Spurs and their decisiveness could sway him as his patience wears thin.
Getting Bergwijn in would be a top signing, especially if we’re able to keep it separate to any potential Richarlison deal to ensure we can get full value for the Brazilian.
Bergwijn has shone when given an opportunity at Spurs but he has struggled for regular game time behind Heung-Min Son, Harry Kane and more recently Dejan Kulusevski.
The club now want to sign Richarlison too which would see him fall further down the pecking order, but he’s shown plenty of times that he is capable of playing at this level.
With plenty of top flight experience, Bergwijn could be a great replacement for Richarlison if the fee is right and would see a young and hungry attacker join the ranks.
It would be a good step away from big-money reputations and pipping a Champions League club to the deal would show that we’re still an attractive option to plenty.
