Tony Cascarino ‘concerned’ for Everton going into new season
Tony Cascarino has revealed that he is genuinely ‘concerned’ about Everton going into the new season.
The Toffees are going through a rebuilding phase after having a horrible season where they narrowly managed to escape relegation in the Premier League.
Cascarino, while talking to TalkSport as cited by Liverpool Echo, suggested that Everton might well be once again involved in a fierce battle at the wrong end of the table.

“I would be concerned if I was an Evertonian,” he said. “They had a dreadful season. Got out of jail.
“They lack a lot of things, certainly defensively. Going into the new season, I wouldn’t be that optimistic. They might lose Richarlison and maybe even Calvert-Lewin. There is an air of ‘I am not sure where they are going to go’.
“I don’t see them being midtable and above. I think it will be below midtable and just above that relegation zone.”

Time to return to basics
There is one big question mark surrounding the situation at Goodison Park. Will it get worse before it gets better? We have already seen the lows at Everton in the recent season when they barely escaped relegation.
Their owner Farhad Moshiri has spent so much money on players without getting any reasonable return on them.
Recently, he brought the Champions League-winning and European-winning players Andre Gomes and James Rodriguez to the club, but none became a hit.
He most recently appointed Champions League winners in Rafa Benitez and Carlo Ancelotti, but both of them also failed to keep the club in a discussion for a top-six finish.
So how will things change under Lampard? The only way things will change is if Everton starts going back to the roots they were famous for.
Everton were always known as a club that used to create some of the most amazing young talents in the country and recoup great value from them.
So instead of spending big money on players who might be doing well at other clubs, Everton should base their success on their academy graduates.
