Everton still want Harry Winks despite exclusion from Richarlison to Tottenham deal

Everton manager Frank Lampard is still considering a move for Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks, according to a report from 90min.

The 26-year-old had been mentioned in conjunction with Richarlison’s move the other way, but after that deal was completed i News reported the Toffees boss had backed away from the former England international.

However it appears that he may still be on the cards to arrive at Goodison but is one of a crowded field of potential recruits for the midfield.

The £60million sale of the club’s Brazilian star should have freed up some room for Lampard to go about his own transfer business.

He has so far been restricted by the financial situation at the club but it appears he has plenty of players in mind.

The latest report says: “90min also understands that Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks remains a target for Everton, though he is one of many players shortlisted to strengthen Frank Lampard’s midfield.”

The way things have gone so far this summer, the solid recruitment of James Tarkowski on a free transfer aside, have left the Toffees having to make up for lost time.

Based on the fact that the club only avoided relegated in the penultimate game of the season it would suggest the squad needs fairly major surgery.

While adding a proven performer at centre back is certainly an important step it doesn’t address everything, especially in light of the most effective attacker in the final weeks now being gone.

Since the club wanted the Richarlison sale to be done on straight cash terms due to the need to focus on the books as much as the squad it wouldn’t have made sense to temper the number brought in by including Winks.

All the noise up until Thursday (30 June) suggested Lampard thought highly of the forgotten Spurs player, so now the end of the month deadline has passed as far as the accounts are concerned he can assess the situation in earnest.

Both Tottenham and Chelsea offered players in return for the star attacker but the club turned down all of those attempts, although that didn’t necessarily mean that the Everton boss didn’t want them.
