Everton must overcome Crystal Palace to sign Morgan Gibbs-White after he rejects Wolves deal

Everton transfer target Morgan Gibbs-White has rejected a new deal with Wolves and is now available, according to a report from 90min.

The 22-year-old is in high demand though and Crystal Palace are reportedly leading the race, with the Eagles “confident” of persuading him to move to Selhurst Park.

A contract offer had been on the table for some time, but amid heightened transfer interest he has apparently now turned it down, leaving his current side willing to accept offers of over £20million.

Nottingham Forest are also keen on a move thanks to his history with Steve Cooper at Swansea and with England under-17s.

The versatile attacker had an excellent loan spell with Sheffield United in 2021/22 where he contributed 12 goals and 10 assists across 37 appearances, which has catapulted him into the sights of various Premier League suitors.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth had reported on Monday (4 July) that the Toffees were preparing an official offer and Wolves were yet to decide if he could leave, but the latter hurdle appears to have been cleared.

The timeline on this is moving very quickly and a transfer looks like it could be wrapped up within days at this rate.

The player certainly looks to be interested in moving on since he has now rejected the contract offer just at the time that the interest in him was becoming public knowledge.

As a goalscoring English midfielder in the Premier League there would seem to be no better mentor than Toffees boss Frank Lampard.

There must be a reason however that Patrick Vieira’s Palace side are so confident, and the Frenchman was no slouch in the English top flight himself.

Everton need goals to replace Richarlison’s output, and creativity to help bring Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s qualities back to life.

So if Gibbs-White can translate what he did in the Championship into anything similar in the Premier League he looks like the ideal target.

However, now with some money to spend Lampard will have to move fast to overcome his transfer race rivals.
