Everton: Andre Gomes Goodison Park exit could pave the way for Amadou Onana arrival

Andre Gomes has been linked with an Everton departure this summer and if he exits Goodison Park, it could open the door for Lille midfielder Amadou Onana to join the Toffees.

JuveDipendenza reported (7 July) that a swap deal has been proposed for Adrien Rabiot to join Everton and for Gomes to move to Juventus.

It has also been suggested by The Daily Star’s Paul Brown (via GIVEMESPORT 22 June), that Everton would be willing to let Gomes leave if an offer came in for him.

If the Portuguese midfielder did leave Goodison Park in the coming weeks it could pave the way for Onana to join the club.

There has been no secret made of the fact that Everton need to wheel and deal in the transfer market to allow Frank Lampard to adequately overhaul his squad after last season’s disappointment.

According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the Toffees have made a bid for Onana, but they could face fierce competition from West Ham, Leicester and Monaco for the 20-year-old, who is contracted to Lille until the summer of 2026.

Allowing Gomes to leave would free up a huge amount of the wage structure, for Lampard to then pursue a move for the Belgium international.

This would be exactly the type of signing the Toffees need to be making, with the club looking to target young and up-and-coming talent.

Onana fits the bill with already having first-team experience as well as still being young and able to develop further.

Even if Everton had to pay a premium for Onana, there is a good chance that his value would only increase whilst at the Toffees.

This is a move they should certainly look into further.
