Everton make approach to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko amid £35m Manchester City reveal

Everton have approached Manchester City with an enquiry about Ukrainian left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported via their print edition on Friday (15 July, page 75) that Arsenal are in talks to sign the 25-year-old, who’s valued at £35million by the Premier League champions.

It is understood that Chelsea and West Ham have also approached Man City about potentially signing the versatile Ukraine international.

Do we need him?

Zinchenko has mainly been deployed as a left-back in his time at Man City.

However, the former PSV ace can play in an array of positions.

He’s adept at playing in the centre of the midfield, as a number 10 and as a left-winger.

Last season, he made 28 appearances in all competitions for Man City and assisted five goals in the process. According to transfermarkt, all but one of those appearances were at left-back.

For Ukraine, he usually plays in the middle of the park, which is where Everton would surely play him if he was to sign for the Blues this summer.

Everton already have Vitaly Mykolenko at left-back while Niels Nkounkou is also there and Nathan Patterson also has the ability to play at left-back.

Zinchenko could be seen as a midfielder by Frank Lampard but if he needs him to move to left-back, he will.

Having fellow Ukraine international Mykolenko is bound to help the Toffees in their pursuit of Zinchenko but £35million seems like a lot of money for the Merseyside club when they’re probably better off buying a specialist central midfielder instead.

Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham are also said to be keen on the Man City ace and all of those clubs are more promising ones to join than Everton at this moment in time.

We’ll be shocked if this one happens.
