Maxwel Cornet misses Burnley pre-season clash as Everton step up transfer hunt

Everton look to have put their foot on the gas to sign Burnley forward Maxwel Cornet on Friday.

Fraser Fletcher, a former BBC journalist has reported that the Toffees are leading the race for the Ivorian, who is said to have a £17.5million release clause after relegation.

Developments have taken another turn in the past hour, with Cornet now missing out on the Clarets’ pre-season clash with Shrewsbury Town.

Lancashire Live has reported that Cornet has a knock, and that is the only reason why he is missing out, with Vincent Kompany not taking any risks.

The winger was involved in training on Thursdya morning though at Gawthorpe, with that no doubt being a light session given his problem.

It isn’t described as being a serious issue though, so no possible move would likely be affected.

Interesting.

Everton are said to be ready to pay the £17.5million it will take to get a deal over the line.

Cornet would be an excellent signing, as he could play as a winger, a striker and even at left-back if that is really needed by Frank Lampard, a possibility given our horrible injury luck.

It was reported by i News this week that Kevin Thelwell has remained in the United Kingdom while the rest of the squad is out in the USA continuing their pre-season plans.

That is to work on new signings, so it would be no surprise to see a breakthrough on this one.

Cornet sitting out of the game at Shrewsbury will increase speculation, even with the explanation of his injury, but with no big issue, it makes it easier to complete if pushed.

We need some new arrivals soon, and kicking them off with the arrival of Cornet would be the perfect piece of business needed to raise the spirits around Goodison Park.
