Everton could be banned from displaying Stake logo on front of jerseys
Everton could reportedly be banned from displaying the Stake logo as their main jersey sponsor should the proposed Premier League rules come into play.
According to The Times, the Premier League clubs are likely to take a vote over the banning of gambling companies as front-of-shirt sponsors.
The Toffees, who signed a multi-year deal with betting company Stake.com for a fee worth excess of £10million a year [The Times] will not be permitted to display the name where it currently is on the new jerseys.
Time for change?
While the clubs are ready to agree on a voluntary ban on these gambling sponsors right away, they have postponed things until autumn.
That’s because they want the political picture to get clearer after Boris Johnson has been replaced as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
There are enough number of votes for this change to pass so sooner rather than later this will come into play – forcing Everton to make a change.
We’re unaware as to how that will affect their deal with Stake.com and whether or not they will completely pull out of the deal.
They could ask for branding elsewhere if not the front of the jersey and these negotiations will certainly take place behind the scenes.
The Toffees’ financial condition is extremely tricky and bleak as of now and the lack of funds is now seeing them losing out on transfer targets to their Premier League rivals.
