Sky Sports pundit concerned by Everton in Maxwel Cornet approach, wants ‘cheap’ deal done now

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Everton “have to” get a deal done to sign Burley’s Maxwel Cornet considering he is available for “cheap”, according to Kevin Campbell.

The Clarets winger has a release clause of £17.5million, but so far the Toffees have just had a loan bid rejected despite not spending any money so far this summer on transfers.

But with other clubs closing in on a player who would otherwise not be available for such a good price Sky Sports pundit Campbell is starting to grow concerned as to what the hold up could be, although he remains hopeful that a deal will be done in the end.

To whether it seemed like a too much the club to pay for a player of quality Campbell told Goodison News: “No it doesn’t seem like a lot.

“The loan and then a chance to buy [offer] does make you worry a little bit doesn’t it? Makes you think, ‘hmmm’.

“Because it’s not an astronomical amount of money. It’s pretty cheap considering he’s Premier League.

“And he’s shown himself to be a very, very good player in the Premier League.

“I think that it’s something that Everton will get done in the end.

“A player of that quality at £17.5million is very cheap so Everton have to get it done.”

Everton

It is hard to see what could be getting in the way of this move since the club badly need reinforcements and here is highly-rated one available for a knock-down price.

With £25million available for Morgan Gibbs-White and £30million for Broja there is apparently some money to spend, so while those negotiations flounder it would seem an obvious response to get this one quickly tied up.

The Ivorian would presumably like to get back into the Premier League so there is a golden opportunity ready for Everton right when they need it most, and the fact it still hasn’t happened will be making more than just ex-captan Campbell concerned.
