Southampton beat Everton and Newcastle to sign Bordeaux striker Sekou Mara
Southampton have reportedly beaten Everton and Newcastle in the race to sign Bordeaux striker Sekou Mara.
The French club announced that they had reached an agreement with Saints for the sale of their 19-year-old striker.
90Min report that the Premier League side will be paying them £12.8million and will have beaten the Toffees and the Magpies to secure his services.
Marawould’ve been a good addition to any side that secured his services this summer and it just happens to be the Saints that won the race.
Despite being a teenager, the 19-year-old had his breakthrough campaign in 2021/22 and scored six goals and also bagged two assists in 27 games.
Had Everton signed him, there’s a good chance that Frank Lampard would take his time and give him limited minutes before looking to start him regularly.
With Richarlison having left, a versatile attacker would’ve done the club a lot of good, but unfortunately, it wasn’t to be for them.
Hopefully, this does not dissuade the club in their pursuits of securing a striker this summer and there are a few names who’ve been linked closely.
Armando Broja has handed in his transfer request at Chelsea amid interest from the Toffees and Lampard could play a huge role in bringing him to Goodison Park given his links with the club.
