Everton move for Billy Gilmour could cast doubt over the future of midfield trio

Everton are looking to sign Billy Gilmour on loan this summer and that could well see Frank Lampard move some of his current midfield options out of Goodison Park.

The Daily Mail reported (29 July) that Everton are looking to pursue a loan move for Gilmour with Ross Barkley’s return to Goodison Park now unlikely.

It does make sense for the club to target a more defensive-minded player with Lampard’s midfield options littered with ageing players.

If Gilmour did make the move to Goodison Park this summer then it would not be a surprise to see one of the Toffees’ current midfield crop depart.

Andre Gomes looks like one of the most likely players to leave Everton this summer the 29-year-old’s contract entering its final two years and seemingly not part of Lampard’s plans.

It’s understood that Everton are looking for a fee in the region of £20million for the former Barcelona man.

If Gilmour was to sign for the Toffees then there is every chance that Gomes would be pushed even further down the pecking order at the club.

However, the club would almost certainly have to lower their £20million asking price.

Another player who is facing a slightly uncertain future at Goodison Park is 29-year-old Abdoulaye Doucoure.

The midfielder is certainly a good option for Lampard to utilise, however, with only one year left on his current deal, Everton could still generate a decent fee if he was to depart.

31-year-old Allan is another player that faces an uncertain future with his contract now in its final year and could potentially be moved on this summer.

It certainly promises to be an intriguing last month of the summer window for Evertonians.
