Everton must learn from Jean-Philippe Gbamin episode and invest wiser
Everton have decided to allow midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin to leave the club in the ongoing transfer window, according to The Times.
The 26-year-old joined the club from Mainz in 2019 in a £25million move with a lot of expectations, however, he has only made eight appearances for the Toffees and has been a major disappointment.
The Ivory Coast international, who still has two years left on his current deal with the Merseyside club, spent the second half of last season on loan at Spartak Moscow.

Waste of Money
Everton under the ownership of Farhad Moshiri have spent a lot of money on players in the last few years.
Many talented players like Yery Minna, James Rodriguez, and Andre Gomes came to Goodison Park but never really showed the kind of performance expected of them on a consistent basis.
There is no argument that Gbamin makes that list as well. Ever since he moved to Everton from Bundesliga in 2019, he hasn’t lived up to his potential. Many Evertonians expected him to fill the void left by Idrissa Gana Gueye, who departed to PSG in the 2019 summer.

The 26-year-old did not show the kind of grit that was expected of him at the time of arrival and his quality on the ball was not up to the standard as well.
It is because of this reason the Merseyside club opted the play the likes of Allan in a deeper role. With the club trying to cut their losses, it is important to learn from Gbamin episode and ensure that the hierarchy only spend on players who are worthy of playing for a club like Everton.
