Everton watch Ludovic Ajorque in pre-season, available for £18m - Kaveh Solhekol
Everton were among eight Premier League clubs who watched Strasbourg striker Ludovic Ajorque play aginst Liverpool on Sunday, according to Sky Sports.
The 6ft 6 striker started for the Ligue 1 club against Liverpool and grabbed an assist as they claimed a 3-0 win at Anfield in a surprise result.
The French man impressed and had a host of Premier League clubs watching him including the Toffees, and Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol shared that with the player available for around £18m it’s a deal we could hear more about later in the window.
Wolves, Leicester, West Ham, Fulham, Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth and Newcastle were also scouting him at the game.
Ajorque has hit double figures for goals in all four of his seasons with Starsbourg, including 12 in 36 games in the 2021/22 season.
At this point it should come as no surprise that Everton want a forward player in the transfer window, and Ajorque could be a shrewd bit of business.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is obviously the first-choice striker at the club, but having a 6ft 6′ alternative to call upon with top level experience and a good goal record is not a bad thing.
Salomon Rondon currently has that honour, but he’s never been particularly convincing in the Premier League and his goal record is shoddy at best.
Ajorque would be a big upgrade on him and give the team a different way of playing when he’s on the pitch too, which is always a positive thing in a side that has struggled for goals.
£18m may be a bit steep, but the likelihood is that negotiation can be done on the price and if not Everton must decide on spending money they have or going forward with a squad that barely escaped relegation.
