Salernitana president rubbishes link with Everton midfielder Allan

Serie A side Salernitana are not currently looking to sign Everton midfielder Allan, as per club president Danilo Lervolino.

The 31-year-old Toffees midfielder has been linked with a return to Italy this summer, with Corriere Dello Sport (August 3, page 19) suggesting they could make a move in the final hours of the window for the Brazilian.

However, the Serie A club president has made it clear that the transfer link with Allan are false.

“The rumour that we would like Allan is a lie. I receive about 40 phone calls a day for the transfer market negotiations of Salernitana,” said Lervolino, as quoted by Liverpool Echo.

“We must make prudent and careful choices, taking players suitable for the gameplan of our coach (Davide) Nicola.”

Keep him

Allan hasn’t been able to show his class that we saw from his at Napoli, but he can still be an important player for the club next season.

The Toffees are unlikely to get a good transfer value for him, and losing him would mean the squad will be further weakened.

Everton are working on a tight budget, and they have found difficulty in signing players.

Of the current lot, only Andre Gomes can bring in decent funds, and Frank Lampard badly needs money to bring in his choice of players.

Everton are reportedly close to signing their former midfielder Idrissa Gueye from Paris Saint-Germain. It shows that they are really struggling to bring in players who are young and playing in their prime.

Allan is a reliable defensive midfielder, and selling him doesn’t make sense unless they’ve replacements lined up.

Having said that, the Brazilian needs to step up his game in the coming season. He needs to work hard and make solid contributions.
