Frank Lampard reportedly called up Lille midfielder Amadou Onana on Wednesday night to convince him to join Everton.
According to Foot Mercato, the Toffees boss sitting on the negotiation table worked and he successfully convinced the Belgian to move to Goodison Park.
The Toffees are yet to reach an agreement with the Ligue 1 club over a fee but they are confident of beating West Ham to his services.
Onana surely will have watched a lot of Lampard when he grew up and it does make sense why he was convinced by the Blues manager.
Speaking from a neutral standpoint, it did make more sense for him to move to the London Stadium.
The Hammers have finished in European places in each of the last two seasons and have made some expensive signings this summer as well.
However, it’s not as exciting to work for David Moyes for an overseas player as it is if he was one of the greatest Premier League players of all time.
It’s good to see Lampard sitting at the negotiation table and more of that is needed in the coming weeks as players do take a liking if there’s that personal touch to it.
He surely was an influential individual as a player and now it’s time for him to be that as a manager as well.
Onana’s agents have also come out and said that he wants to move to Everton so we’re expecting this one to get wrapped up sooner rather than later.
