Michah Richards blown away by Everton summer target Idrissa Gueye
Micah Richards has showered heaps of praise on Everton summer target Idrissa Gueye.
Fabrizio Romano has reported the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder could leave the club before the end of the week, adding on Tuesday (2 August) that he is due to jet into Merseyside for a medical after personal terms have been agreed with the Blues.
Richards has hailed him as a “machine”, adding that his stamina is “breathtaking”. The Sky Sports pundit wrote in his column for The Daily Mail (4 August) that if Everton sign Gueye, he doesn’t see them getting relegated this term.
“If Everton get a deal done to bring Idrissa Gana Gueye back, there is not a hope of them being relegated. I played with Idrissa at Aston Villa and he’s a machine,” wrote Richards for The Daily Mail.
“He will do the work of two men — the running he can do is frightening. I saw him do a drill at Villa, during the middle of Ramadan and his stamina was breathtaking. He was literally running on empty but still beat everyone.
“I went to Goodison Park towards the end of last season and I still can’t get over the atmosphere I witnessed. If Everton get their fans behind them and get Idrissa in midfield, they will be fine.”
Gueye shares a strong bonding with the Everton fans, and it seems he is on his way to join the Toffees in the next few days.
At 32, Gueye is not the same old player he once was, but he can still do a decent job.
In three seasons at PSG, he has managed over 100 appearances for the club, and Frank Lampard will hope that he will bring the necessary steel and grit to the midfield that the Toffees are currently lacking.
The Toffees narrowly avoided relegation last season, but they will be hoping to do well this term.
New signings are needed immediately, especially in the forward department following the departure of Richarlison.
The problem is the Toffees are operating on a tight financial budget, but if they can bring in some quality players, they should be doing better.
Gueye may not represent an ideal signing for the club, but he can still be very effective.
