Everton appear in good position to lure Conor Coady away from Wolves

Wolves defender and reported Everton target Conor Coady was omitted from the playing eleven against Leeds United.

Manager Bruno Lage opted to go for new signing Nathan Collins and Max Kilman ahead of Coady, who is the club captain.

This is a clear indicator that the Portuguese manager does not fancy the England international playing in a back four and would rather start two younger players instead of him.

Sky Sports journalist Alan Myers reported that Everton are interested in signing Coady this summer.

He also said that Frank Lampard is a huge admirer of the player and we’ll have to bring him to Goodison Park.

Given Coady’s uncertain situation at Wolves, it does make sense for Kevin Thelwell to table a bid for the player.

The Toffees did play a back three against Chelsea and even though they lost, they did look solid defensively.

Had it not been for a needless foul from Abdoulaye Doucoure that led to the visitors scoring the winner from a penalty, the result could have been different.

During the game, Ben Godfrey also suffered an injury that will see him ruled out for months and not for weeks.

This means that Everton will have to enter the transfer market once again for a central defender, and Coady seems to be the best choice available, as things stand.

It’s now time to sit down with Wolves at the negotiations table and chalk out the finer details before they can finally get this deal over the line rather than dilly-dallying for another week or two.
